We, the members of SLOA are to abide by code of ethics. All new members are made aware about the code as they join the association. Any member wishing to obtain code of ethics may follow the listed below.
1. To give visual welfare of the patient utmost importance at all times.
2. To treat patients as individuals and respect their dignity, privacy and hold in professional confidence all information concerning a patient. Also maintain clear patient records.
3. To give patients your complete attention and take into account their preference encouraging them to actively involve in the decision made about their prescription, product and service rendered, allowing them sufficient time to decide.
4. To maintain your practice in accordance with professional healthcare standards. Be aware of current good practice and seek to improve the quality of your work.
5. To conduct yourselves as exemplary professionals with honesty, integrity, fairness, kindness and compassion Respond with humanity and empathy to patients when they experience distress, anxiety and pain.
6. To update your educational and technical proficiency in every possible way by a recognised source.
7. To be competent in all aspects of your work. lncluding clinical practice, teaching, research and management roles. Do not perform any roles in which you are not competent.
8. To maintain cordial and unselfish associalions with members and work collaboratively with colleagues within the optical profession and other healthcare practitioners.
9. To advise the patients whenever consultations with or referral to other Oplometrists or other healthcare professional ls appropriate.
10. To make sure that no person shall lack ophthalmic care regardless of their financial status.
